3-2-1: how the Current raced to victory over Louisville, the Rapid saw red against the Roses, and Fleming found a way through for the Thorns
Three games, two insights per game, and one visualisation each — here’s the 3-2-1 wrap-up of this weekend’s women’s footie action.
Game 1: Kansas City Current FC [4] vs Racing Louisville [2], NWSL, 14th June 2025
I. Bia Zaneratto’s precise finish into the left-hand corner (after her cheeky backheel in the box allowed her to claim the hockey assist on her own goal) was her lowest-xG goal of the season. Zaneratto has scored four goals from just 1.6 xG this season, ranking her fourth in G - xG in the league.
II. Louiville’s highest-xG chance of the game fell to Uchenna Kanu, who dutifully scored — despite only playing for four minutes and having just four touches.
Game 2: Ottawa Rapid FC [1] vs Montreal Roses FC [2], NSL, 14th June 2025
I. Olivia Scott (Ottawa Rapid FC) picked up the NSL’s first-ever red card in the 25th minute. Unsurprisingly, Montreal went on to register more than double the number of shots as Ottawa. The league’s top scorer, Delaney Pridham, still managed to get herself on the scoresheet — her eighth of the season.
II. 69.9% of the field tilt in the Roses’ favour paid off eventually. The two highest-xG chances of the match fell to Roses players — and they scored both.
Game 3: Portland Thorns [2] vs Washington Spirit [0], NWSL, 15th June 2025
I. Jessie Fleming picked up two assists to help Portland secure the win — already double the number she recorded all of last season. It was her best attacking display of the campaign, also registering her highest number of shots in a single game.
II. Washington recorded their second-lowest xG total in a match this season. It’s also only the third time they’ve been held goalless.
